Death Note

Death Note, Volume 1

I am well and truly addicted. Hooked. Insatiably intrigued. People I know have been constantly telling me to read Death Note and for the life of me I continued stalling by reading other manga titles. I should have been kicking myself back then.

Death Note manga is absolutely hands-down the best manga I have read, ever. I have a soft spot for conniving evil geniuses who plan to rule the world by using their wits and common sense. ^o^

It is about shinigamis (gods of death) who have a Death Note, a notebook where they write the names of the person that are to die. The moment a person’s name is entered in the Death Note, his death and even details of it, will come to pass just as it is written in the Death Note. But when one shinigami passes over to the human plane an drops his Death Note, a human picks his up and discovers its use. What are the consequences of the Death Note falling on human hands?

It’s a shounen manga and its genre is more of suspense thriller rather than horror as you might expect from shinigamis killing people one at a time. What got me hooked was the storyline. It’s a game of cat and mouse. Sometimes you don’t know who to root for, or even who the good guys or the bad guys are. And every chapter is a cliffhanger, in a good way! Damn it, I’m just halfway through reading the manga and I already want to marry the author and pick his brains.

So before I become maniacal from it, I suggest you all to read Death Note! It is absolutely worth it! Beware though, if you’re used to mangas who actually have a romantic angle (bordering on shoujo) you won’t find it here. It’s pure unadulterated suspense on every page!

The manga is created by Obata Takeshi(Art) and Tsugumi Ohba(Story) and it spans twelve volumes and is currently completed in Japan.
