Nihonggo Woes

April 5th, 2007

Ion manga slumpI’m in a slump. That’s definitely it. I’m still going with my japanese language lessons but it isn’t going fast enough for me.

For example? I was browsing about Manga Jouhou’s forum a while ago and saw many groups needing Japanese to English translators for mangas. I desperately wanted to raise my hand and say “Me! I can translate!” and then my conscience says “Like hell, you do. You’ll translate slower than a snail can move.” Oh my conscience, as brutal as always.

We’re going to the province for a few days this Holy Week holidays and I’m planning determined to bring along my japanese study book. Who knows, I just might sneak in some lessons in between playing at the carnival booths and joining the rides.

  1. Ah the woes of learning a language… you know, i’ve actually learnt at least three years of japanese, I got to uni and they wouldn’t let me do anything other than first year introductory. However, they do have a point, because aside from learning ‘kore wa pen desu’ we’re actually learning kanji at breakneck speed and blaaaah.

Sigh. Languages are hard. But keep at it! From psych I learnt that multilingual people are really adept at thinking and problem solving!
