Layout Skins

ouran high host club icon Tamaki

I have a feeling that this will be my most used avatar yet, to denote my predicament within the next few days. ^^ As for today anyway, the ouran icon will be true to form. I am exhausted. Why? Because I had the stupid idea of thinking that making 16 new layout skins for Harusaki will be a great idea. So here I am with my muscles screaming in agony.

You can see that there are 16 different skins as part of the two-year anniversary of Harusaki, as a treat to our loyal visitors who’ve been with us since day one. The hardest part on those layouts will be trying to make it work across browsers, or even different browser versions. The first outtake looked good in Firefox, Opera and IE 7, but screwed in IE 6. I had to leave it alone for several days because I was too annoyed with it. >.<

I’m most proud of how I handled the changing of the different themes of the Google ads. The color of the ads and search results change in accordance to the color scheme of the skin you choose. *sigh* Allow me to gaze at my brilliant work for a moment.

Making Waves

A lot of things seem to be happening on this blog within the last few weeks which, in truth, I knew nothing about. I haven’t really made any specific changes to it; I’ve been far too busy with other things. In fact, unlike the previous month, this is probably the only month where I didn’t post at least everyday.

  • The site’s Alexa traffic rank has jumped 3,366,289 places to land at 1,670,154 which is amazing since I haven’t done much linking or affiliating with other sites. If any, at all. In fact, I’ve steering clear of those since the beginning. Amazing what organic search results can do.
  • The unique visitor count has averaged 114 last week against the measly 69 of the week before that. For that increase I am completely baffled since I don’t see any new site linking me. I’d just assume it’s the search engines again since 70% of my traffic come from them.
  • Popular forums are direct linking my Vampire Knight avatars. That would have irritated me to no end, but I already disabled direct-linking on my site before so that was covered. I just made a new image to announcing someone as a direct-linker.
  • I got my very first hostee here in Swordian and it’s named Parody Quest XX by Wren and Rion which features their own comic!

Does these mean that this blog is becoming popular? I really hope so. Sometimes I really miss those Painted Wings days when I get a lot of comments regarding my updates. But then again, that was a very impersonal site, more focused on freeware graphics than my personal life. So it’s really makes me smile to know that at least my scattered thoughts in this blog are reaching others in some way.

Living With Spam

ion manga arina tanemura avatar

My hatred for internet spam has reached a whole new level. It has passed hatred. It is now undisguised loathing and contempt for all things spam-related. If there was a way to rid myself of all of those, I will gladly do it.

The reason? Winglica has been attacked by these dreadful spammers. Nothing dangerous, just rampant advertising in the comments area; even inappropriate content for our teen audience.

I had to spend almost an hour just trying to weed out all the spam messages we got. Suffice it to say that once done, our total comments was pruned down to only 1/8 of its original number. A daunting fact, and I congratulate myself in having the patience to go through all of it.
