More on the topic of scanlations, I’ve recently searched the web to find some resources that’ll help me get a better hang of things. I must admit that I was overwhelmed by the resources I’ve found and I had to pick the best ones. Makes me want to translate the japanese manga I bought myself. ^^ Oho, as if I could trust my japanese skills that far. ^^”

  • Idiot’s Guide to Editing Manga – a resource goldmine for newbies. It has step by step instructions on everything. ^^ I’m going to spend hours browsing through this site.
  • Japanese Sound Effects – Aha! Finally, I get to understand what all those special effects mean. I was reading manga and I couldn’t help but scratch my head when a bunck of “do” characters keep popping up.^^
  • Some japanese dictionaries, especially for those dreadful kanjis; both online and for download – Coolest.com, JWP, and Wakan (one I personally use)

So that’s about it. *rolls up sleeves*I better start practicing for this new endeavor. ^^

Sparkles of Interest

There’s a super typhoon brewing here in the Philippines and my brain seems to be going along with the notion. Of brewing, that is. I finally found my interest sparked by a couple of things that are new to me, or I haven’t done in a long time. They are certainly welcome; a definite break from a monotonous routine that I have been stuck with.

  • Michan has asked me to be an editor in her upcoming scanlator site! My job would be editing all those japanese words in the scanned manga into english ones in Photoshop. I haven’t had any experience with it yet and I am already very excited. ^_^ Another skill to widen my horizons!
  • *looks around to be sure no one is listening* This one hasn’t been announced yet, but. Yes, this next one is about Ouran High School Host Club yet again. Jas and I are going to make a roleplaying site about it, and it will stretch my knowledge in WP yet. That is to have a content management site, run by one blogging system and with various layouts. Phew! *straps seatbelt on* I’m ready for the challenge!

Fickle Database Server

It was one of those crazy days again. I was working on Manga Avenue and all of a sudden I see an error on my main page that said my server was down. So I waited. Little did I know that the reason behind it was that my databases went poof! And not a single thing remained. I thought of several probable causes.

  • Server downtime – it happens. There’s nothing to do but wait it out.
  • I’ve been hacked! But then my site is tucked in the farthest corner of the web so no there’s the possibility of that is slim.
  • My host really did lose my database – I’ll be declaring war if this happened.

I got in contact with my host and they said they will investigate. So while we (Michan and I) were waiting, Michan distracted me from my agitation. So the moment the site was back up:

Me: http://manga-avenue.com/ *cries in happiness*
Michan: it’s baaaaccckk!!!! XD *pounces on the avenue and kisses it*
Michan: ugh not again
Michan: kachou were you able to save it? : o
Me: yes..
Michan: w00t
Michan: we’ll just have to wait until the administrators figure out what the problem is xD
Michan: oh it’s up again
Michan: and it’s gone again
Me: it’s back again
Me: @_@
Michan: =)
Michan: this is one epileptic server
Me: *is getting dizzy with all the popping and poofing*
Me: lol
Michan: xD

And the site is back up again now, but I’ll be monitoring it for a while. Though my host was very reliable and I appreciated their quick reply. ^^
