War and Suspicion

June 18th, 2006 | Comments

It was such a hot day yesterday so I decided to ride a taxi on my way to the Toy Convention.

As I hailed a taxi and got in, I noticed the driver had a resemblance to the people in the Middle East. Immediately, my heart raced with fear and suspicion. As I was sitting at the back seat, my mind was whirling with suspicious thoughts. Like, “What will I do if he does something?” or “How will I defend myself?” The only thing of use that I had was my umbrella and I held on to it tightly.

But as the minutes flew by, I realized I was being paranoid. He driver wasn’t doing anything suspicious. He wasn’t even talking to me. Even as I got off the taxi nothing out of the ordinary happened. So why was I so jittery?

The reason hit me and I winced in chagrin. Just because a person looked like a terrorist I have acted foolishly. I immediately suspected him of things that I didn’t have any right to.

When have I become so racist? When have I mistrusted people based on their looks? This realization is shaming.

Is this what war does to people?

If so, I have to learn how to erase the stigma of judging people based on how they look like. Otherwise, I myself will not win this battle.

Book Holiday

June 12th, 2006 | Comments

angel sanctuary avatarDid I mention that I’m on a book holiday. Well, yes I am, but it seems that I can’t really stay away from the internet. A glutton for punishment at your service.

The first book was titled The Missing Locket of Windbrace Hall. It’s genre was romance/ historical/ gothic and it was written in the first-person perspective. It was the first time I ever read something in that genre and I liked it. Liked it so much I stayed up till 2 am to finish the book! Yep. Finished the book within 4 hours straight.

The next book is on the romance genre and I am a bit disappointed in it. It’s dragging and nothing interesting is really going on. Not to mention that the author is playing at being psyhic by telling what her characters are thinking. Really! Shouldn’t authors show us rather than tell us what their characters are about? Though the book’s not that bad; it’s just so-so.

I remember the last time I hated a book. Hated a book so much I threw it out the window. Literrally. Another time was I wanted to get rid of it immediately that the moment a friend asked me if it was alright to borrow the book, I immediately said she can have it, keep it, and never let me see it’s pages again.

A simple question. How can some published authors have so much bad grammar in their works? Don’t they have editors and proofreaders?

Love Celeb

gin love celebHe’s hot. He’s stylish. He’s got attitude. And he’s pervy. What more could I want?

The name? Gin? Occupation? The future prime minister of Japan.

Well, at least in the latest manga I’ve read. The title is Love Celeb by Shinjou Mayu and this is one adult manga that I really like. The plot is insane and lively. Plus there are a lot of gorgeous guys.

Need I repeat myself? What more could I want?
