Living With Spam

My hatred for internet spam has reached a whole new level. It has passed hatred. It is now undisguised loathing and contempt for all things spam-related. If there was a way to rid myself of all of those, I will gladly do it.

The reason? Winglica has been attacked by these dreadful spammers. Nothing dangerous, just rampant advertising in the comments area; even inappropriate content for our teen audience.

I had to spend almost an hour just trying to weed out all the spam messages we got. Suffice it to say that once done, our total comments was pruned down to only 1/8 of its original number. A daunting fact, and I congratulate myself in having the patience to go through all of it.

Mistaken Identity

Here’s something. . . funny, or weird. Entirely depends upon your opinion. I got this comment in my Kyou Sohma shrine.

Can i ask,…Do you need a student i love the books you make and stuff!! I love to draw and have many ideas for your writing. Also my drawings are very good i wish i could show you!!!

Apparently, I was mistaken for Natsuki Takaya, mangaka of Fruits Basket. O_o

Learning the Trade

More on the topic of scanlations, I’ve recently searched the web to find some resources that’ll help me get a better hang of things. I must admit that I was overwhelmed by the resources I’ve found and I had to pick the best ones. Makes me want to translate the japanese manga I bought myself. ^^ Oho, as if I could trust my japanese skills that far. ^^”

  • Idiot’s Guide to Editing Manga - a resource goldmine for newbies. It has step by step instructions on everything. ^^ I’m going to spend hours browsing through this site.
  • Japanese Sound Effects - Aha! Finally, I get to understand what all those special effects mean. I was reading manga and I couldn’t help but scratch my head when a bunck of “do” characters keep popping up.^^
  • Some japanese dictionaries, especially for those dreadful kanjis; both online and for download - Coolest.com, JWP, and Wakan (one I personally use)

So that’s about it. *rolls up sleeves*I better start practicing for this new endeavor. ^^
